Can I start my sweat equity hours before I fill out an application?
No. Future homebuyers can only begin working on sweat equity hours after they have been accepted into the Homeownership Program.
How long after being accepted into the Homeownership Program am I able to buy my completed home?
It usually takes between 18 to 24 months after being accepted into the program for a home to be completed and ready for purchase. Sometimes it may be more, sometimes it may be less.

No. Habitat for Humanity provides "a hand up, not a hand out" to help hard working, low income families and individuals, who otherwise would be unable to afford a loan through traditional financing, purchase a Habitat home with an affordable mortgage.

Is there anything I can start doing now to prepare for when applications are open?
Yes! Interested applicants can work on:
1. reducing/paying off debt
2. making timely payments on their bills
3. resolving any accounts they may have in collections
4. maintaining stable income
We partner with a number of organizations that offer free budget and credit counseling for those interested in preparing themselves before applications are open. Completing free budget and credit counseling is NOT a requirement to be able to apply to our program but it is highly recommended and can increase your chances of being a better qualified applicant. You can contact our partner organizations directly to get more information.
